According to a DSA Canada study, three out of five Canadians are looking for a side hustle

During the COVID-19 epidemic, the Direct Sellers Association of Canada (DSA Canada) conducted a survey by Abacus Data that revealed 31% of Canadians sought additional income options.

Unemployment or layoffs, a reevaluation of personal objectives, and a shift in financial goals were determined to be the underlying reasons for Canadians who took advantage of these possibilities.

The study also discovered that three out of five survey respondents want to continue looking for ways to augment their income in the coming year. Students (83 percent) and young Canadians (18-29 years old) are the major groups in this number (75 percent ).

“This research testifies to the reality that, whether by choice or need, Canadians find value in income options that would not be considered part of a typical work arrangement,” said Peter Maddox, President of the Direct Sellers Association of Canada (DSA Canada). “Participating in the gig economy, becoming an independent sales representative for a sales-based company, or starting their own modest start-up business are all possibilities.”

Positive perceptions of the direct selling channel among Canadians were also attributed to a dedication to consumer safety and ethics, as well as a significant year-over-year increase, according to the research findings.

“The economy is shifting, and the epidemic has accelerated this,” Maddox added. “On the plus side, many individuals, particularly younger Canadians, are searching for flexibility and work-life balance while they make money, and technology and market innovation are making this feasible. People are discovering methods to engage in entrepreneurial activities, such as direct marketing, in a way that is convenient for them.”
