Empowered Entrepreneurs: How Direct Selling Is Assisting Women In Discovering Their Entrepreneurial Passion

Sudhi Soni, an accomplished obstetric physiotherapist in Jaipur, has years of experience managing her professional and personal lives. But there was a mission behind her thriving medical practice: to financially and emotionally empower women.

The doctor advised her to pursue her interests in travel and beauty while also engaging in meaningful social contacts. Sudhi began her business adventure in 2010 as a direct salesperson for Amway India, and she is now advising women on health, beauty, nutrition, and financial flexibility.

Sudhi is one of the many Indian women who turn to direct selling to become entrepreneurs and make the type of difference they’ve always wanted to make. According to research, women-owned companies in India are expected to increase by 90 percent in the next five years.

“People have been contacting me online to learn more about what I’m doing and to get product recommendations. Sudhi says, “I can now exhibit what I love, acquire more leads, and grow my community.”

In 2018, Minati and her fitness-obsessed husband, Samarjit, founded ‘Reshape Nation,’ a thriving online community of fitness-obsessed individuals. Minati and Samarjit hope to influence, affect, and serve the community by encouraging others to live healthy lives. Reshape Nation has over 7,000 Instagram followers and more than 1 lakh Facebook fans.

Minati’s fitness passion and journey are just examples of how tenacity and determination can have a significant effect with a tiny step.

Women’s empowerment is blazing a trail

Women can combine their career and personal life while contributing to the home income through an entrepreneurial opportunity such as direct marketing. One of the many reasons that more women are starting businesses is because it allows them to have a more flexible schedule. Having flexible working hours, unlike other occupations, will enable women to have more influence over their day.

Furthermore, having a consistent source of income allows individuals to gain confidence and ensure a bright future for themselves and their families. To be a successful direct salesperson, they don’t need a particular degree or education. In comparison to conventional work, they may easily stay at home and operate a business.

Using women’s empowerment to bridge the rural-urban gap

Amway India started its Livelihood Initiative in four areas throughout Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in 2017 to teach impoverished women entrepreneurship, healthcare, cleanliness, and the fundamentals of business management. By 2019, over 200 women benefited from the initiative, which was replicated in New Delhi and Himachal Pradesh.
