It Is The Responsibility Of The State Government To Improve Nutrition: Choudhary

Health is the greatest gift, but staying well has been a problem in the ongoing pandemic, according to Satish Chandra Choudhary, additional secretary, Department of Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Government of Jharkhand. The idea is to live a healthy lifestyle since staying healthy is far easier than recovering from an illness.

Choudhary, speaking at the FICCI Jharkhand State Council’s Aapda Mein Swasthya webinar, said that the Directive Principle indicates that it is the responsibility of state governments to increase the level of nutrition, the standard of living, and public health in their respective states. “While the National Food Security Act (NFSA) supplies food grains to over 80 million people, the Jharkhand government also gives over 18 lakh tonnes of meals through the mid-day meal scheme. More than 25,000 PDS outlets serve the state’s 2.61 million residents, providing three kilograms of rice and two kilos of wheat.”

Despite the State Government’s efforts, Choudhary stated that malnutrition is a concern in the state. “To combat malnutrition, we will begin rice fortification in Singhbhum. Around 15 lakh individuals are receiving five kilograms of rice as part of the Jharkhand State Food Security program, which began in December last year.”

According to Chakraborty, the epidemic has caused significant changes in people’s eating habits. “Most people are aware of what they consume, and immunity-boosting foods are in high demand.”
